ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COUNCIL

(INTERNATIONAL ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL COOPERATION)

The Economic and Social Council of the Youth diplomatic association of the United Nations, coordinates the economic and social activities and formulate policy recommendations addressed to UN member states and the UN system. It is responsible for promoting the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) agreed at international level. (Protection of the environment, gender equality, women’s empowerment, economic and social growth, development of cultural, education, climate change, food security, energy, humanitarian assistance, health public and others).

To create conditions of stability and well-being necessary to ensure among nations for peaceful and friendly relations based on respect for the principle of equal rights of peoples and their right to self-determination, Diplomatic Association of the United Nations promotes youth:

a) higher standards of living, full employment, and conditions of progress and development in the economic and social order.

b) The solution of international problems in economic, social areas, public health, sustainable development and other related issues, and international cooperation in the areas of intellectual culture and education.

c) universal respect for and observance of human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language or religion.

d) The notice, in accordance with the rules of the association, international conferences on matters within its competence.

e) conduct tests and provide advice to the United Nations:

• Provide expert analysis on various issues

• Serve as an early warning agent

• Monitor international aid and implementing agreements

• Help to raise awareness of the relevant issues

• Play a key role in promoting UN goals

f) consultative status to have relevant activities related to the work of ECOSOC (Economic and Social Council of the United Nations) and actively participate in the work of the subsidiary bodies of ECOSOC.

Article 71 of the UN Charter, which established the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), provides as follows:

“The Economic and Social Council may make suitable arrangements for consultation with non-governmental organizations which are concerned matters within its competence. Such arrangements may be made with international organizations and, where appropriate, with national organizations after consultation with member the United Nations concerned. “UN -Charter, Chapter X, Article 71.

Article 71 of the UN Charter opened the door to provide suitable arrangements for consultation with non-governmental organizations. Consultative status with ECOSOC is governed today by ECOSOC resolution 1996/31.

The Economic and Social Council remains the only principal organ of the United Nations with a formal framework for NGO participation. This part of the accreditation has advantages for both the United Nations and NGOs. As indicated by the 1996-1931 resolution on “Consultative relationship between the United Nations and non-governmental organizations”

“… The consultative arrangements must be made, first, to enable the Board or any of its agencies to provide expert information or advice from organizations having special competence in the subjects for which mechanisms consultation are made, and, on the other hand, to enable international, regional, sub-regional and national organizations are an important part of the public to express their views. “- ECOSOC Resolution 1996-1931, Part II, paragraph 20

The Diplomatic Youth Association of the United Nations make recommendations to coordinate the programs and activities of the specialized agencies to improve the lives of citizens in the world. The association is based on the structure and actions of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations (ECOSOC).

The Economic and Social Council of the Association consists of members who want to join.
